Businesses, governments, and individuals depend more and more on the data security and privacy protection in IoT systems. As data collection becomes broader and easier through automated data collection, sensors, and the IoT, protecting the data is becoming more of a focus. There are many data collection algorithms and their security and privacy are also addressed to some extent, it is still challenging to tell if the collected data is of low-quality, untrustworthy, meaningless, or undependable. We apply various strong security protocols to process, store, and transmit the data and make decisions IoT and cyber-physical system and applications. It is still tough to guarantee existing privacy-preserving algorithms for communication and decision-making seem to be effective, however, if the data being protected by these protocols is itself suspect due to attacks on the privacy at the data gathering process. In this talk, we will stress security and privacy aspects of data collection show how untrustworthy concerns may appear during the data collection. We will then discuss on particular algorithms how we deal with security and privacy at the data collection.
